How to Ask for a Local Moving Quote
When it’s time to move to another home, there are lots of things on your to do list. Finalizing the paperwork on your new home, packing and cleaning out your old home, and closing down and setting up utilities are just a few things you would need to do. Once all the details are in place and you’re ready to make a move, you’ll need to decide whether you want to do it yourself or work with professionals.
When it comes to working with professional movers there are a number of factors that go into the cost of your move. Here are several things to consider when asking for a moving quote on a local move…
Size of the home you’re moving out of
As movers, we like to know how many bedrooms and the square footage of the home you are moving out of. This will give us an idea of the space we’ll need to cover and how many people we need to bring with us to facilitate the move. When requesting a quote be sure to include the square footage and the number of bedrooms on the home you’ll be moving from.
Location and distance
If you are moving outside of the metro area, it’s good to tell the moving company this ahead of time when requesting a quote. Because of a longer distance, there may need to be extra fees involved to cover gas expenses.
Are there stairs involved?
If you’re moving from a small two bedroom apartment, but it’s on the third floor, this can make a huge difference in strain on the movers. The more movers you have, the easier and smoother the move will go. But if the movers are strained due to stair climbing while carrying boxes and large pieces of furniture, it won’t make for a satisfying move. Although, it’s a smaller residence, the stairs involved would require extra hands on deck. Therefore, if there are stairs involved with your move, remember to tell your movers this ahead of time.
Do you need extra services, like packing?
If you need extra services such as packing, cleaning, or multiple stops. These may require additional fees and materials. For example, packing may require an additional crew on a different day. Let your moving company know when you’re requesting a quote about these additional services to make sure they are able to do it and to find out if it factors in your final price.
It’s important to be as detailed as possible when requesting a moving quote. This will give your potential moving company a more accurate idea of what to expect and how to quote your moving project. When in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear. Your moving company is here to help you make your next move a smooth one.
