How to Prepare for Professional Movers

As professional movers we have had our fair share of working with customers who are both prepared for and unprepared for their move day. As our namesake implies, we pride ourselves in making moving day as easy as possible. Although moving stress can be inevitable by nature, there are many things you can do to ease the process especially if you are working with professional movers.

Organize boxes by room.

Organizing boxes by room helps to minimize guess work when it comes to unpacking. It also provides a simple way to communicate with your movers where each box will go when they arrive to your new destination. This will also speed up the move process by eliminating the amount of direction you have to give which will ultimately help save you money since most moves are charged by the hour.

Make arrangements to pack and transport large items that the movers aren’t able to move.

Some movers will not move large items such as pool tables, pianos, statues, chandeliers, etc. Make sure to find out ahead of time what your movers can move and what they can not. This way you can make arrangements to pack and transport those items that can not be moved by your movers.

Pack everything before your movers arrive.

Unless you paid a premium for your movers to pack and/or unpack for you, make sure everything is packed before they arrive. The last thing you want to have happen is for your movers to show up and you’re still packing. Pack everything ahead of time in boxes, suitcases, baskets, and bags so that your things are ready to be moved into the truck and transported.

Plan for pets and small children.

The kids and fur kids are so cute, but unfortunately they have a habit of slowing things down. To make the move day easier plan on having a babysitter or petsitter to take care of your little ones so they remain occupied and far away from the moving action.

Have extra supplies and keys on hand.

You never know what can happen, but always plan for the worst. It would be very beneficial to have an extra set of keys on hand just in case something happens. You will be going in and out of doors and it would be easy to get locked out or have some sort of key malfunction. Also, be sure to have extra boxes, packing supplies, towels, and other supplies on hand just in case the worst happens.
